1997 Director, Special Projects (1995 to 1997)
Responsible for developing and planning the procedures and infrastructure necessary to re-focus the staff and environment in the Operations Department in order to prepare for the changes brought on by new technologies. Also responsible for developing and implementing an EDI strategy for the worldwide organization.
Some Major Accomplishments:
• Established and coordinated an integrated disaster-recovery plan utilizing an overseas hot site
• Completed a project to the requirements for an enterprise-wide imaging / document management solution
• Developed and implemented corporate-wide EDI strategy for critical data transfer, resulting in improved control, flow, and timeliness of information
• Developed plan and organized resources for improved client server technology, utilizing the NT operating system within a mainframe environment
Director, Systems Development (1987 to 1995)
Responsible for all phases of system development and maintenance in support of the business units within the Wholesale and Specialty Sales Group of Willis Corroon. Acted as the Information Services account representative to these business units; activities included managing multiple project staffs, budgeting, strategic planning, scheduling, and coordination with other Information Services functions. Business systems supported included Group Life & Health Claims and Administration, Worker Compensation Claims Payment, Re-insurance Brokerage Administration, Health Care Management System, and Wholesale Brokerage Policy Management System.
Some Major Accomplishments:
• Managed implementation of an in-house workers compensation system resulting in an annual savings of $600,000
• Prepared an affiliate organization for transition to local management and support for a re- insurance brokerage administration system
• Led selection process and directed implementation of a project management software system, resulting in consistency of project planning across 17 separate project groups
• Consulted on the development of requirements for a new Surplus Lines Brokerage system and participated in selection of outside development vendor
• Negotiated consolidation of four separate 401K record-keeping software licenses into a single contract, for a corporate cost saving of $250,000
• Developed and implemented an Information Systems cost allocation and charge-back methodology
• Directly involved in successful response to RFPs and sales presentation process on a number of key workman's compensation accounts
• Directed conversion and implementation of a vendor-supplied group life and health administration and claims processing system, resulting in improved efficiencies, reduced overall costs, improved information and timeliness

Responsible for all maintenance and enhancements to three separate claim processing systems; traditional BC/BS, comprehensive major medical, and a dental claims processing system. Supervised a staff of programmers and analysts in the maintenance and management of a large-scale batch and on-line claims processing system. This system supported all claims payment functions for the primary line of group coverage with 2,500 on-line users.

Primarily responsible as a project leader for the design, testing, and implementation of major enhancements to an existing claim processing system.

Performed EDP audits of the railroad's various accounting and operational systems. Also performed financial and operational audits of the railroad, its subsidiaries, and its operations jointly owned with other railroads.
